Plant-Based Tips

Start small

It is better to start small than to not start at all.

  • "Meatless Mondays" or better-yet, "Plant Based Mondays"

  • Try eating plant based for one meal, such as lunch

  • Try it for one month, and see the results for yourself

We started by going plant based in January 2018, just to try it for a month. We gave ourselves Sundays "off." When February came, we were feeling great, and we loved what we were eating. So we kept eating plant based and the rest is history. Try it for yourself! Start small, but don't stay there. Your body with thank you.

Buy food you like!

Don't force yourself to eat kale if you don't like it! If you love tacos, eat tacos! Replace the meat with black beans or chickpeas and season them the same way you would the meat. Here's something to think about: do people even like meat? Plain meat? Is an unseasoned chicken breast mouthwatering? It's the seasoning that goes on it that people crave. So use that same seasoning on other sources of protein (like beans!).

Rethink your meal

We used to joke that eating a plant based dinner is like taking a side dish and making it your main dish. While this is a joke, why do we think of a baked potato as a side? It could easily be your main dish, and you could have some cooked veggies, beans, or whole grains with it.

Instead of basing your meal around a meat, base it around whole grains, beans, or potatoes. Then load up on other veggies and fruit.

Eat so many healthy grains, veggies, fruits, and legumes that you don't have room for animal products!
